2012! A year of challenges and opportunity! A time when each Human being will be challenged by outside and worldly conditions, but more importantly, this is the time when each person’s soul will challenge the mindset that rules an individual’s life. How well we meet our personal challenges will decide the opportunities that are afforded us.
2012! A time to be brave, to dare to break the mold, to find the courage to stand up and answer the call of the open heart . . . the open heart that cannot deny the truth and the principles of righteousness and equality.
2012! President Obama found the courage to publicly speak in support of Gay marriage. Probably not a clever political statement but none the less he did what he felt was morally correct.
I grew up in show business and show people saw no distinction between race, color or creed. And we knew Gay people as part of “the family.” Sweet and simple! The only thing we were judged on was credibility, honesty and skill in the art we had chosen. However, this generous attitude did not extend into the general public. Beyond the stage doors, society not only frowned on biracial and same sex unions, but often punished lovers.
And then, as a nation we evolved! In 1967 the Supreme Court deemed anti-miscegenation unconstitutional. Today, interracial marriage is a part of the color of our lives. Now it is time to evolve again. If same sex partners seek committed family relationships, society should not deny them the right to commemorate their union legally in marriage.
The question is; can we let real Love rule our lives? Let us be reminded, The Compassionate One calls us to Love our enemy. All too often the enemy is the manner in which we think. Let us remember, “Love each other as I Love you.” That statement doesn’t segregate, separate, divide or classify worthiness.
2012! Here is the challenge! Love it or leave it alone. Until we can live in appreciation of the beauty in our differences, we will suffer the ugliness of an empty heart . . . or we can evolve into the most profound opportunity ever offered. The grandest opportunity is to live in a world free of bigotry, class distinction, and unequal rights.
“Come to me as the little children.” His words! When babies enter a room they are fascinated with other babies. They want to explore each other. Skin color, body size, boy or girl, or even poopy diapers can not restrain their desire to play together.
“Come to me as the little children!” They know the truth! An excellent example is 9-year-old Josef Miles. With his mom, Patty Arkroucha, on the campus at Washburn University in Topeka, he observed protesters from a small Baptist church. It is their practice to display signs saying God hates “etcetera, etcetera” messages, at the funerals of military veterans and celebrities. Josef retrieved a sketch pad from their car, made his own sign. Strong and respectful, Josef displayed his handmade sign. “God Hates No One.” Our comment could be, “Out of the mouths of babes.” But at 9-years-old Josef showed us the intelligence and courage of a man.
The brave stand in the light of the Truth. And the Truth is, we are all Loved equally by our Creator. Upon Human creation the Elohim said, “Let Us Make Them In Our Image!” Not, let us make some worthy of our Image and we will leave others out of the picture. Not, we will love them if they behave according to the dictates of a church, a government or political leader.
The Truth is we are related to every God-made creature. So when we love and appreciate all others we do it for ourselves.
2012! The beginning!
